India is a developing nation with a total population of 102.82crores out of which 28.61crores is rural population and their main occupation is agriculture. About 26% of India’s total population is dependent upon agriculture but due to continuous increase in the birth rate, the agricultural land is being used for residential purpose, as a result of which the balance of nature is being disturbed. This disturbance in nature has directly influenced the agriculture sector and has reduced the employment in it to a large extent.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan offered job placement to more than 600 local youth on completion of their vocational training at the chickballapur job fair organised by government of Karnataka. KVTDC (Karnataka Vocational Training & Development Council) a government of Karnataka undertaking organised a Career development cum job fair for the local youth in and around Bangalore. The objective of the entire event was to empower the local youth with employable skills and support them with appropriate employment on completion of the training.
Known for its Vocational training and placement capabilities, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan among others was approached by KVTDC to provide support on Vocational training and placement. Close to 900 youth were trained by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on Employable Skills through its power packed industry based Soft skills training program. The youth trained belonged to the weaker sections of the society hailing from rural as well as urban pockets in and around Bangalore.
The Soft skill training was spread across 5 days on full time basis. Effective communications, Body Language, Basics of Spoken English, Etiquettes, Interview Skills were among the important modules of the training program. The training was conducted at 9 different locations to facilitate mass reach out among the students especially from the rural pockets. Chickballapur, Bagepalli, Gudibande, Gauribidanur, Yelahanka, Devanahalli, Hosakote, Nelamangala and Doddaballapur were the training locations.
The career development program was finally concluded by a Job fair held on the 15 July 2012 at chickballapur, which was inaugurated by Dr. M Veerapa Moily the Union Minister for Corporate Affairs. “Navodaya Foundation Trust of India has always been of great support and help to us similarly their support has helped us achieve the voluminous employment numbers among the local youth” said Dr. M Veerapa Moily while addressing the audience.
All the trained students participated in the job fair to fetch a job for themselves. More than 20 potential employers from the employer’s network of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Trust of India attended the Job fair to interview and recruit the trained students. KFC, MC Donalds, Sodexo, TATA TRENT, Hinduja Group, Serrco, Ocwen Financials, TCS, HSBC, ICICI were among the employers who participated at the job fair and recruited the students.
More than 600 youth trained by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Trust of India were offered employment offers on the day of the job fair.
Vedanta’s Sustainable Development Work Through 167 formal partnerships with government bodies, academic institutions and hospitals, Vedanta through its Foundation has reached out to 2.7 million people in 550 villages. The group has more than INR 180 Crores in various programmes through 2010-11. 10 lakh students have benefited through its computer education programme.
More than 22 lakh people are being provided healthcare through hospitals and rural health posts. 2.5 lakh children are provided healthy mid-day meals in schools in partnership with NGOs and Government. Self Help Groups are empowering women through socio-economic independence. More than 35,000 women are currently enrolled in about 2000 SHGs.
